Floyd Mayweather has backed out of his massive $175 million lawsuit against several former business associates, at least for now.
Court documents obtained by TMZ Sports show Mayweather dismissed his New York Supreme Court case against Jona Rechnitz, Ayal Frist, Alexander Seligson and Frist Apex Ventures.
The critical detail is that the dismissal was filed “without prejudice,” leaving the door open for the boxing legend to refile the lawsuit.
Mayweather launched the case in May, alleging that the defendants took huge sums of money from him through business dealings involving real estate, expensive jewelry and the sale of a private jet. He claimed damages totaling “not less than” $175 million.
The defendants denied wrongdoing. Shortly after filing the lawsuit, their attorney called Mayweather’s claims “utterly baseless.”
A source in Rechnitz’s camp told the breaking news outlet that the defendants were preparing to submit their response and believed they had evidence disputing the allegations.
Mayweather is facing two felony charges in Las Vegas over a disputed $200,000 check and is also fighting civil lawsuits tied to failed boxing deals. In 2011, he served jail time after pleading guilty to a domestic violence charge.
