Lil Durk’s defense says prosecutors are trying to bring excluded gang, drug and violence evidence into his murder-for-hire trial through a new exhibit list.
The rapper’s attorneys filed a motion Monday asking U.S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald to block the material before jurors can see it. Prosecutors added the disputed exhibits to their list on July 23, according to AllHipHop.
The evidence reportedly includes guns unrelated to the charges, conversations about marijuana sales and a group text that appears to discuss an armed robbery. Some of the messages involve people who have not been charged in the case.
Durk’s team said the government did not provide proper notice or explain how the material was relevant. The attorneys accused prosecutors of offering exhibits “clearly designed to inflame the unconscious biases of the jury.”
The filing comes after Fitzgerald separated new racketeering murder charges connected to a Chicago killing from Durk’s approaching Los Angeles trial. His lawyers now argue that prosecutors are attempting to reintroduce similar material.
Durk, born Durk Banks, has remained in custody since October 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he arranged a 2022 attack intended for Quando Rondo in retaliation for King Von’s death.
Rondo was not injured, but his cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson was fatally shot.
A hearing is set for August 13, followed by trial on August 20.
