Fat Joe had plenty to say about J. Cole’s short-lived basketball experience in China during a recent podcast discussion with Jadakiss and Sheryl Swoopes.
The rapper reacted to Cole’s lone appearance with the Nanjing Monkey Kings after the Grammy winner failed to score a single point during his debut in the Chinese Basketball Association.
“By the way, J. Cole quit after one game,” Joe said on Joe and Jada. “He donuted. No points, no nothing. No assists, no points.”
Cole suited up for the Monkey Kings on April 11 against the Guangzhou Loong Lions after ESPN insider Shams Charania reported he had signed a contract with the organization earlier this year, but the team lost 95-81, while Cole recorded zero points on 0-for-5 shooting alongside one rebound and one assist in limited minutes.
Joe suggested the level of international competition caught people off guard.
“Everybody who’s the nicest from overseas is over there,” he said before adding, “They ran him out of China.”
Cole later addressed the situation on his blog, Inevitable, explaining that visa delays disrupted his original plans.
“Initially I was scheduled to play in at least 3 games for the Nanjing Monkey Kings,” he wrote. “The work visa process took way longer than expected.”
The rapper recently released his album The Fall Off and is preparing to launch a summer tour in July, which did prove to be a success, debuting at the top of the Billboard charts after selling 280,000 equivalent units.
