Famous Dex is back behind bars after being arrested in Las Vegas on a domestic battery charge, according to official records.
The Chicago-born rapper was taken into custody Sunday and booked on the charge. He appeared to remain jailed in Las Vegas as of Tuesday, according to TMZ. Details surrounding the alleged incident, including the identity of the alleged victim, have not been released.
Dex has had a rocky career marked by a slew of legal issues.
In 2021, the “Japan” rapper faced 19 charges tied to three separate incidents, including allegations involving domestic violence and gun possession.
Two of the alleged violent encounters involved former girlfriends. In another case, police said they discovered a loaded firearm inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Dex was later sentenced to 364 days in jail in September 2021. After his release, he entered rehab.
By April 2023, the rapper told TMZ he was “11 months sober” and appeared focused on his music career. At the time, he was promoting another installment in his Rich Forever album series alongside Rich The Kid and Jay Critch.
After the arrest went viral, a GoFundMe circulated online. The campaign, started by a woman named Pamalla Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, known online as one half of the Rodriguez Twinz and a cast member on Druski’s Coulda Been Love Season 2, identified Famous Dex, whose real name is Dexter Gore, as the man she says assaulted her after they had been spending time together for about two weeks.
In the GoFundMe description, Rodriguez alleged she was “choked” and “punched” and said the attack left her with a black eye, busted lip, bruising, neck pain and other injuries that required medical care. She also said her phone was damaged and credited her security team with helping her leave the situation safely.
Rodriguez wrote that the injuries have kept her from completing modeling, influencing and content-creation work, leaving her with lost income as she faces medical, legal and security expenses. “I do not want to suffer in silence,” she wrote, adding that the fundraiser is intended to help her “heal, protect my safety, and begin rebuilding my life.”
