Actresses Tessa Thompson and Janelle Monae were one of the most prominent Black same-sex couples in all of Hollywood. Both Tessa and Janelle “came out” as members of the LGBTQ+ team, and have been semi-open about their long-term relationship.
Well now Media Take Out can confirm that the couple has SPLIT.
Tessa and Janelle have been dating for the past 3 years, and in Hollywood circles – they were one of those “IT” couples. One movie industry insider explained to Media Take Out, ‘They were together and inseparable. Both beautiful and talented. It’s a shame that they didn’t last.”
Tessa made the public announcement on Twitter over the weekend:

While Tess and Janelle have never “officially” came out as a couple, Thompson and Monáe have been rumored to be a couple for quite some time now. And in a 2020 interview with the Creed star, it seems like the pair have a special bond.
“It’s tricky, because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space, and also wanting to use your platform and influence,” Thompson told Net-A-Porter, noting people have reached out to her to let them know how Janelle’s work has helped them come out to their family and friends.
While Thompson hadn’t previously spoken publicly about her sexuality (Monáe came out in 2020 as pansexual), the actor said her family is very open-minded about her attraction to both men and women.
