Ex- Laker Says Bronny James Needs Space From LeBron

Tiffany Brockworth |

Devean George wants the Los Angeles Lakers to take the training wheels off Bronny James’ NBA career.

The former Lakers forward told TMZ Sports that Bronny has been “babied” by receiving minutes only in favorable situations. George believes the 21-year-old should face the same pressure, competition and growing pains as every other young player.

Rather than protecting him from difficult matchups, George said Los Angeles should give Bronny meaningful playing time and allow his performance to determine his role.

He also believes Bronny needs to create some separation from his father, Lakers superstar LeBron James.

“I think he needs to space away from his dad,” George said.

George encouraged him to stay with the Lakers, develop his own identity and prove what he can accomplish independently.

George played seven seasons for the Lakers and helped the franchise capture three straight championships during the early 2000s.

Bronny’s connection to LeBron has followed him throughout his young career and George believes the Lakers can quiet some of that noise by treating him like everyone else on the roster.
