Mary Mara, who played Loretta Sweet on ER, has died…and the cops suspect she died from drowning.

Reports suggest that Mara went swimming in the St. Lawrence River, according to a New York State Police. Her body showed no signs of foul play but the authorities think she drowned. An autopsy will confirm how she died.

“Mary was one in a million—one of the best actresses I ever met,” Mara’s manager, Craig Dorfman, said in a statement. “I saw her for the first time off-Broadway in 1992 in Mad Forest and she was electrifying. She was unique, wickedly funny and a wonderful woman who will be missed.”

The actress was 61 at the time of her death.

“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim drowned while swimming,” according to police.

Mara appeared on many popular tv shows inclusing “Dexter,” “The Practice” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.” She also starred in “Nash Bridges,” “ER” and “Ray Donovan.”
