Eminem is defending his decision to team up with Kid Rock after fans slammed the unlikely collaboration.
“Not about choosing sides, just choosing to make music with my old friend. Praying for all of us,” Eminem wrote Friday, addressing the reaction to his appearance on Rock’s new album, Halfway 2 Jesus.
The rapper contributed a verse to “Heal My Faith,” a faith-centered track that celebrates their friendship despite their political disagreements.
The release surprised some fans because Eminem has publicly opposed Donald Trump and endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 election, while Rock has remained a vocal Trump supporter.
But according to Rock, their friendship has always been bigger than politics.
“We talk about [politics] a little bit, not a ton,” he told Billboard. “There’s a lot of stuff we agree on, and we can have a laugh about what [we don’t].”
The Detroit rocker said he specifically approached Eminem about appearing on “Heal My Faith” because of their longstanding bond. He also said the rapper’s guest appearance was initially announced for another track, “7 Sins,” before plans changed.
Rock joked that recording multiple songs together might give people the wrong idea about their friendship.
“I’m just putting a positive message out there in the world,” Rock explained.
