EJ Johnson had some scathing reviews of this year’s Met Gala looks.
After Monday night’s highly anticipated fashion event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Johnson shared his assessment of the red carpet looks tied to the gala’s “Fashion Is Art” theme.
“You could clearly see who understood the assignment,” Johnson said. “And who didn’t.”
The annual event, known for over-the-top couture and dramatic interpretations of each year’s concept but EJ slammed celebrities who chose more understated outfits despite the artistic nature of the theme.

“This is where you take risks,” he said. “If you play it safe, you disappear.”
Some attendees, including Beyoncé and Rihanna, received praise for their theatrical looks inspired by sculpture and fine art, but the son of famous basketball player Magic Johnson says that not enough risks were taken.
“When the brief is ‘art,’ there’s no excuse for being boring,” he said.
“Style is personal, but effort shows,” Johnson explained. “And at the Met Gala, effort is everything.”
