Drakeo the Ruler’s Mom Settles Lawsuit Over Rapper’s M*rder

Drakeo the Ruler’s mother has reached a settlement with Live Nation and several other companies nearly five years after the rapper was fatally stabbed backstage at a Los Angeles music festival.

Darrylene Corniel, who oversees her late son’s estate, settled her lawsuit against Live Nation, C3 Presents, Contemporary Services Corporation, Black Tide Events, Bobby Dee Presents and Hollywood Elite Security.

According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the settlement is conditional and requires “the satisfactory completion of specified terms to be performed within 45 days.” Financial details have not been disclosed.

Drakeo, born Darrell Caldwell, was 28 when he was stabbed in the neck on Dec. 18, 2021, shortly before performing at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival. His mother accused festival organizers of failing to protect him from a violent crowd that allegedly entered a restricted backstage area.

Corniel claimed her son died “at the hands of a violent mob” in an area that should have been secured.

Drakeo’s young son, Caiden, still has a pending wrongful death claim, while his brother, Ralfy the Plug, and others who witnessed the attack are pursuing separate negligence claims.

The investigation has also remained unresolved. California Highway Patrol investigators searched a Burbank property affiliated with rapper YG in July. He was detained and released without arrest. YG has not been named a suspect or person of interest, and no arrests have been made.
