Former President Donald J. Trump has been found guilty of sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll by a Manhattan jury. She was awarded $5 million in damages.
Caroll claims that Trump targeted her in a Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan almost three decades ago. Caroll said Trump pushed her into a dressing room and raped her.
“I filed this lawsuit against Donald Trump to clear my name and to get my life back. Today, the world finally knows the truth. This victory is not just for me but for every woman who has suffered because she was not believed,” she said in a statement.
Trump still says he is innocent. Trump has maintained her did not now Caroll and that the incident never happened.
“I have absolutely no idea who this woman is. This verdict is a disgrace — a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time!” he wrote on his Truth Social account.
