Don Lemon Claims He’s a Target After Minnesota Arrest

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is speaking out after his recent arrest tied to an anti-ICE protest at a Minnesota church, and says he is being punished for telling the truth.

In a Substack post published Saturday, Lemon quoted scripture while reflecting on the experience. “There is a passage in scripture that says, ‘The truth shall set you free,’” he wrote. “But it does not say it will protect you from cages. It does not say it will spare you the consequences of seeing too clearly.”

Lemon said authorities treated his reporting as a crime rather than protected speech. “The government decided that my work as a journalist was not protected speech, but punishable,” he wrote, adding that press freedom often ends when it challenges those in power.

Federal prosecutors allege Lemon coordinated with activists who disrupted services at Cities Church, blocking aisles and alarming parishioners. Lemon maintains he was present in a journalistic role.

Throughout his post, Lemon compared his situation to historical efforts to silence prominent voices. He cited Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and James Baldwin as examples of figures who faced consequences for challenging authority.

“America loves the idea of a free press,” Lemon wrote, “until journalism disturbs comfort or exposes what power would rather conceal.”

Lemon was released without bail Friday and has said he stands by his reporting.
