DJ Drama Says People Were Skeptical About Him Signing White Rapper Jack Harlow

Jack Harlow is a huge star but DJ Drama says that when he first wanted to sign him, people have him a hard time because they didn’t think signing a white rapper was the right move.

“When I first met Jack I felt his ambition, his want to be one of the ones. I remember even from the label they were like, ‘Eh, white rapper?’ And I’m like, ‘Look, it’s not 2001. We’ve had plenty of examples of successful white rappers since Eminem. It can exist in the culture,'” said DJ Drama

He continued: “And Jack was dope! Obviously, you see his skin color and it’s a big factor but the kid made incredible music. Lyrically, he was dope as f-ck. Personality-wise he was just never trying to be something he wasn’t. He was very comfortable in his own skin in the culture within Hip Hop. I love that about him.”

Jack Harlow is a rapper, songwriter, and record producer known for making songs like “What’s Poppin, “First Class” and “Churchill Downs” featuring Drake. In 2018, he signed a deal with Atlantic Records through DJ Drama and Don Cannon’s Generation Now imprint.
