Diddy’s lawyers are ready to walk away, but reportedly won’t hand over his legal paperwork until they’re paid.
Sher Tremonte LLP has asked a federal judge to release the firm from representing the rapper in a civil lawsuit brought by producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones.
The attorneys claim Diddy owes significant legal fees and has stopped cooperating with them.
“Mr. Combs has not paid Sher Tremonte anything for over six months,” attorney Michael Tremonte said in a court declaration.
The firm is requesting a retaining lien, which would allow it to withhold Diddy’s case files until the outstanding balance is resolved.
“Mr. Combs has declined to make himself available for timely, substantive, and direct communications about his cases for over four months,” Tremonte alleged, per AllHipHop.
The firm sent warnings on September 3 and September 11 before seeking court intervention.
Its request concerns Jones’ 2024 lawsuit, which accuses Diddy of sexual misconduct and other wrongdoing. The disgraced Bad Boy Records founder has denied the allegations and filed counterclaims.
Sher Tremonte previously sought to exit another Diddy lawsuit involving Nexstar Media, citing similar problems. Diddy remains incarcerated in New Jersey following his federal criminal trial. Although jurors acquitted him of racketeering and sex trafficking, they convicted him of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
