Former heavyweight boxing world champion Deontay Wilder was arrested and booked in Los Angeles on suspicion of carrying a concealed gun in his vehicle.
Wilder was arrested around 1:15 a.m and was released a few hours later on a $35,000 bond. Cops say they first pulled him over due to the heavy window tint on his Rolls-Royce and that he had an obstructed license plate. The officers claimed they smelled weed coming from the vehicle, but when they searched him, they found a 9mm. No charges have been filed at this point.
After his release, the boxer hopped on Twitter. “I’d rather be safe than sorry. The End,” he wrote.
Wilder, a former Olympic bronze medalist, is known for his epic trio of matches against Tyson Fury. Recent reports suggest that his next bout will be against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. He is also slated to take on Britain’s Anthony Joshua, in Saudi Arabia in December.
