Dave Portnoy Hits Pause On Patrick Beverley’s Barstool Podcast Amid Assault Case

Lyndon Abioye |

Dave Portnoy is weighing in on Patrick Beverley’s legal troubles, and the Barstool Sports founder made it clear that the NBA veteran’s future with the company is far from guaranteed.

During a recent episode of The Unnamed Show, Portnoy addressed Beverley’s arrest on a felony assault charge.

Beverley hosts Barstool’s Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, but Portnoy said the seriousness of the allegations means Beverley is stepping away for now. Portnoy called the details in the police report “horrific” and said he does not feel comfortable having Beverley appear on any Barstool content while the case is active.

“That is his life to sort through,” Portnoy told viewers. He explained that he is not rushing to judgment, but he is also not making excuses. “We want the facts. If there is any truth to what is being alleged, he will not be coming back,” he said. “It is a very serious matter.”

Portnoy shared that an episode had been planned where Beverley would speak directly about the incident. That changed once the police report was released. Portnoy said he called Beverley after reading it and told him the company had to pause their work together until the case is resolved. According to Portnoy, Beverley understood the decision.

Beverley was arrested after police responded to an incident involving his teenage sister. The police report alleges he grabbed her by the neck, lifted her off the ground, choked her, and struck her. He was later released on $40,000 bail and has denied the allegations through his attorney’s public statements.
