Dame Dash is planning to file for bankruptcy as his legal battle with filmmaker Josh Webber heats up.
According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, Dash’s attorneys moved to withdraw from the case, citing his refusal to comply with court-ordered asset disclosures.
Dash allegedly told his lawyers that bankruptcy would make cooperation “pointless.” They also cited his ongoing lack of communication and asked for a 30-day pause so he could find new representation.
This is the latest development in a long-running feud over the film Dear Frank. In 2022, Dash was ordered to pay over $800K for falsely claiming movie ownership. The judgment surged to $4 million in 2024 after a defamation suit.
“At some point someone on Damon Dash’s team needs to tell him that Mr. Webber will always protect his reputation and rights, at all costs,” Webber’s attorney, Christopher Brown in a statement to the NY Post at the time.
Dash’s Roc-A-Fella stake was auctioned in December, but he still owes more than $823,000. Webber’s team is now targeting Dash’s film catalog, including State Property.
On April 28, the same day his lawyers quit, Dash was due to explain his lack of compliance—or face further penalties. The former label owner will not have to put together a fresh new legal team.
