Dame Dash is sharing new details about how his relationship with Aaliyah began, including why he believes Jay-Z was also trying to win her attention.
Appearing on a recent episode of The Jason Lee Show, Dash said the beloved R&B star had several admirers before they became romantically involved. Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001. She was 22.
“Aaliyah was like, she’ll go to dinner with you, but she just wasn’t going to fuck, but she’ll let everybody get their shot,” Dash said during the interview. “So a lot of people were really in love with her.”
Dash says that an all-white party hosted by Diddy on July 4, 2000, was the moment that changed everything.
“So me and Jay, we’re both throwing in our bid,” Dash continued. “Until someone scores, it’s on. […] I didn’t know I was going to fall in love,” he said. “I just wanted to smash.”
He also alleged Jay-Z posed near Aaliyah in party photos to “make it look like he was f–king with her.”
Dash dated Aalitah from 2000 until she died in 2001, and he married fashion designer Rachel Roy in 2005, before their 2009 split. Dash shares two daughters, Ava and Tallulah, with Roy, and he also has children from other relationships, including a son, Lucky, with Cindy Morales, and a son, Boogie, with Linda Williams. He later married Raquel Horn, with whom he welcomed their son, Dusko, in 2020.
