A new legal development is adding momentum to the case connected to singer D4vd and the investigation surrounding the death of Celeste Rivas.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, prosecutors are seeking testimony from the artist’s parents and brother as part of a California grand jury proceeding. The family, who live in Texas, is now fighting that request, setting off a legal dispute that has crossed state lines.

In recent filings, Dawud, Colleen, and Caleb Burke argue that their due process rights were violated after they received only heavily redacted affidavits tied to a Texas court order compelling their appearance. The family claims the limited information left them unable to understand why they were labeled material witnesses or how to challenge that status.

The grand jury tied to the Rivas case has reportedly been active for months, with several witnesses already appearing behind closed doors. While TMZ reports that D4vd could face potential charges, no official announcement has been made and grand jury proceedings remain confidential.
An appeals court has now given a trial judge ten days to respond, a decision that could determine whether the family must testify.
