Shane Gillis joked that his thinning hair makes him look like Adolf Hitler during his Saturday Night Live hosting appearance, but the audience didn’t bite.
“I’ll tell you the thing that I’m really bothered by is: I’ve balded directly into an Adolf Hitler haircut,” Gillis, 38, told the audience during his monologue.
Gillis then awkwardly explained that his receding hairline has left him struggling to fix his hairstyle without resembling the Nazi leader. The comedian then took the joke further, saying, “That’s it: You’re either gay or you’re Hitler, and isn’t that where we’re at as a country?”
His performance had already provoked an uncomfortable reaction when he joked about women wearing revealing workout clothes.
“I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” he asked, prompting groans from the audience. Gillis also mocked his own physique and recalled being teased by his sisters, who called him “b–h hips.”
In 2019, Gillis was fired just five days after joining the cast when offensive podcast remarks resurfaced.
On YouTube, viewers panned Gillis’ return in the comments section.
“…anyway, so I was in Joe Rogan’s sauna the other day…” Crickets, one viewer wrote.
“Quite a choice to make those comments about women at the gym at this particular moment,” another wrote.
A third viewer wrote, “Is anyone else distracted by the completely straight-faced band members in the background or I just high,” while another referred to it as a “comedic public execution.”
