Papoose filed for divorce because he is “serious” about Claressa Shields, according to the boxing champion.
Shields defended their relationship during an interview with Atlanta radio station Streetz 94.5 FM after she was asked how much longer she planned to date “somebody’s husband.”
“Well, pause,” Shields replied before the interviewer finished the question. “‘Cause that’s not somebody’s husband. Papoose filed for divorce.”
Shields said she rejects the description because Papoose has taken legal steps to end his marriage to Remy Ma.
“Y’all hate to say that word, but it’s the word that’s out there,” she said. “He filed for divorce because he’s serious about me. So, I’m not with somebody’s husband.”
The boxer also called for Remy’s personal life to receive the same scrutiny as Papoose’s.
“If you’re going to call him her husband, make sure you call her his wife and also hold her accountable for what she’s doing in her life,” Shields said.
She continued, “I’m with the man who filed for divorce, who’s serious about me, who’s done things for me that I’ve done for him. So that’s not what it is.”
Shields said the divorce was still moving through the legal system but did not disclose whether it had been finalized.
“It takes time,” she said.
