Claressa Shields Shuts Down Boxing Ban Rumors as New Title Fight Is Announced!

Lyndon Abioye |

Claressa Shields has a new title fight on the calendar, and she is making it clear that the rumors about her being banned from boxing are false.

The unbeaten boxing star will return August 15 in Atlanta to challenge Kaye Scott for the WBC and WBA middleweight titles at State Farm Arena, Salita Promotions announced this week.

The fight will air live on DAZN.

The bout sends Shields, 31, back to middleweight after a run at heavyweight, where she most recently defended her undisputed championship in February against Franchon Crews Dezurn. She has not fought at 160 pounds since 2023, when she was the undisputed champion.

“At this point in my career, every fight is about legacy,” Shields said. “Every fight now is about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.”

Shields, who is 18-0 with 3 knockouts, has already made history as a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the only woman to become undisputed in three weight classes and she has also held world titles across five divisions.

Scott, 42, won the unified middleweight titles in December.

“I believe the bigger the challenge, the bigger the opportunity,” Scott said, adding that she is ready to test herself “against the very best.”

Shields recently pushed back at online talk that she was banned from boxing.

“How?! How?! Always lying!” she said in a video obtained by Live Bitez. “Pap gone be upstairs and at the fight and ringside cheering for his boo like he always is.”

Shield was banned from MVP events in May after she got into a physical altercation with fellow boxing champion Alycia Baumgardner at one of their events.
