Public Enemy rapper Chuck D has spoken out against gun violence following the shooting death of Migos rapper Takeoff.
“This is abnormal behavior. It is a tragedy, and the pain is unbearable…The peace, unity, love aspect of hip-hop should be revered,” he told TMZ.
The rapper says it’s time to stop normalizing gun violence.
“In any other walk of life, it would’ve been addressed far earlier,” he said. “You have people who’ve grown up thinking that hip-hop death is a normal thing.”
The fatal shooting occurred after a private event that took place at 810 Billiards & Bowling.
Houston Police Sargeant Michael Arrington said that most individuals fled following the shooting, which officials stated involved “at least” two gunmen firing rounds.
“People fled after the shooting and did not stick around to offer statement,” Arrington said. “All we can hope is you all will reach out and give us evidence to solve the death of Takeoff.”
