Chris Brown is asking a California judge to excuse him from a court examination over a $12.9 million judgment, arguing that his tour with Usher and Nevada residency make appearing in Los Angeles impractical.
The singer filed a motion on August 27 opposing former housekeeper Maria Avila’s request that he appear for a judgment debtor examination, which would allow her attorneys to question him about his finances and assets.
Breezy says he lives in Nevada, more than 150 miles from the Van Nuys courthouse where the proceeding would be held and that his current performance schedule is packed.
“Mr. Brown’s ongoing travel makes Plaintiffs’ request particularly problematic,” the filing states.
The singer is currently on a North American stadium tour with Usher, scheduled to continue through December. He also revealed there are “ongoing late-stage discussions about extending this tour internationally through the end of 2027.”
Avila won the $12.9 million judgment after suing over a dog attack at Brown’s former Los Angeles-area home.
A judge has previously allowed Avila to collect a portion of Brown’s touring proceeds toward the award.
Brown denies concealing or transferring assets to avoid paying the judgment and continues to challenge the verdict. He has also requested a new trial, with a hearing on that motion scheduled for September.
