Charles Barkley went off on the recently unveiled Miami Heat statue of Dwyane Wade, calling the art piece “ugly.”
After the unveiling, the video went viral for looking nothing like the baller.
“It’s a great honor but they gotta take that thing down,” Barkley told his cohosts Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith. “If you made an ugly statue that’s what it would look like. That thing is awful. The statue was so bad they had to put all his stats behind it so you know who it was.”
Wade seemed shocked by the statue at the unveiling ceremony.
“That’s crazy. I can’t believe that. Who is that guy?” he says in a viral clip.
He later defended the statue, claiming that he did not need the statue to look like him, chalking it up to an “artistic expression of a moment.”
Fans are petitioning for a redo and say the statue is disrespectful to the legendary basketball star’s legacy.
