Charges Dropped Against Alec Baldwin In Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting

Lyndon Abioye |

All charges in connection with the fatal ‘Rust’ shooting against Alec Baldwin have been dropped.

The Hollywood actor was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico movie set in October 2021. At the time, he was practicing a cross-draw when the gun fired. He says he was told the weapon was not “hot” but the weapon did have bullets in the chamber.

“We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” his attorney, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro said in a statement.

Baldwin faced two counts of involuntary manslaughter and the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, faced the same charges. Both charges are fourth-degree felonies, punishable by up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine. They could have faced five years in jail.
