Carrot Top is back home with his loved ones after spending more than a week in a Las Vegas hospital following a reported suicide attempt.
The comedian’s representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed Saturday, September 26, that the 61-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Scott Thompson, is “home with his family and doing well,” USA TODAY reported.
Thompson was hospitalized on September 18, forcing him to cancel upcoming performances at the Luxor, where he has maintained a residency since 2005. According to a Las Vegas police report, Thompson became distressed after learning about a lawsuit accusing him of sexual misconduct.
His tour manager, Daniel O’Leary, told investigators that Thompson expressed concern about losing his shows before sending a troubling text message reading “done.” After O’Leary was unable to reach him, a woman went to Thompson’s home and discovered him unconscious near the backyard pool, and she immediately called for help.
On September 20, Schlicher shared that Thompson was improving and had even begun joking with hospital staff.
“Humor has always been such an important part of who Scott is and how he connects with people,” the representative said. Schlicher also said fans shared messages with the comedian during his recovery.
