Cardi B Unleashes on Mona Love Over Explosive Colorism Claims

Cardi B is calling out podcaster Don’t Call Me White Girl, who suggested her lighter skin helped make her famous.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper clapped back after Damona “Mona” Love claimed darker-skinned women face greater obstacles in securing major opportunities.

“Cardi is very talented … but part of the reasons why she’s there is because she’s light,” Mona said during a recent episode on The Joe Budden Podcast.

Cardi, 34, didn’t dispute that colorism exists but she shot down Mona’s claims that appearance outweighed her talent and determination.

“My skin tone wasnt enough to convince anyone I was a star,” she wrote on X.

The Grammy-winning artist recalled facing disrespect over her teeth, acne, hairstyles, and past work as a stripper before achieving mainstream success, also accusing Mona, whom she said had previously contacted her for personal and career advice, of taking a 2024 livestream clip out of context.

“You went out your way to make a video with no context,” Cardi wrote.

She went on to claim that Mona revived the discussion to divert criticism surrounding comments about social media personality Tia Kemp.

“But what you was really doin was taking my success away and saying its all because of my skin tone,” Cardi wrote. “Whats that if its not colorism?”
