Capitol Records Drops AI Rapper After Backlash

Media Take Out Staff |

Capitol Records announced it had signed an AI rapper last week and the internet went crazy.

FN Meka was created by Anthony Martini and Brandon Le, cofounders of Factory. His most popular single featured Gunna titled “Florida Water.”

Meka faced backlash after his track “Moonwalkin’,” went viral. On the song, he uses the n-word. Some compared him to Tekashi 6ix9ine.

“Moonwalkin’ with a shawty in the lobby/ Feel like Hank Hill when I raise the Bobby (Bobby)/ I don’t see no n-ggas like we playin’ hockey (Hockey).”

“CMG has severed ties with the FN Meka project, effective immediately,” the label noted in a statement. “We offer our deepest apologies to the Black community for our insensitivity in signing this project without asking enough questions about equity and the creative process behind it. We thank those who have reached out to us with constructive feedback in the past couple of days-your input was invaluable as we came to the decision to end our association with the project.”
