Chicago Bulls have released guard Jaden Ivey after a series of social media videos in which he criticized the NBA’s support of Pride Month and made comments about religion.
The team announced Monday that Ivey had been waived for “conduct detrimental to the team.”
In one of the videos posted earlier that day, Ivey criticized the league’s celebration of Pride Month.
“The world can proclaim LGBTQ, right?” he said. “They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA. They proclaim it. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.’”

He continued, “So, how is it that one can’t speak righteousness? Who are they to say that this man is crazy?”
Ivey had posted several similar videos in recent weeks. In another clip, he described Catholicism as a “false religion.”
The 24-year-old has previously spoken publicly about struggling with depression.
Ivey joined the Bulls earlier this season after a three-team trade involving the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves.
He was originally selected by Detroit with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and earned All-Rookie honors after averaging 16.3 points per game during his first season. Ivey appeared in only four games with Chicago before being released, averaging 11.5 points and 4.8 rebounds.
His mother, Niele Ivey, is the head coach of the women’s basketball team at University of Notre Dame.
