Britney Spears Calls Out Copycats in Fiery Instagram Rant: ‘I’M PROPHECY’

Britney Spears is reminding women who she believes have copied her younger image that she did it first.

“To all the girls who say I’m History… I’M PROPHECY,” the pop superstar, 44, wrote in a lengthy Instagram post on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Spears claimed that “a lot of girls” have adopted the “complete image I used to have when I was younger,” though she didn’t name anyone.

“And yo that’s cool but at least mine was real,” she added.

The singer delivered her remarks in a dance video that seemed to revisit one of her most recognizable styles. Wearing a tied white shirt, short gray skirt and red boots, Spears danced to Chris Isaak’s “Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing.” Her ensemble resembled the schoolgirl outfit from her breakout 1998 music video for “…Baby One More Time,” which famously featured braided pigtails and a pleated skirt.

“The world has become fake,” Spears wrote, adding that “people who are actually real get hated on.”

The post comes as her earlier music receives renewed attention following the release of “She’ll Never Be Me,” a previously unreleased song co-written with Justin Timberlake.

Spears and Timberlake dated from 1999 to 2002 after first meeting as children on The Mickey Mouse Club. Their high-profile romance ended amid allegations of infidelity, with Spears revealing in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, that Timberlake broke up with her via text message. She also accused him of cheating during their relationship and admitted to kissing choreographer Wade Robson.

Following their split, Timberlake released his hit song “Cry Me a River,” featuring a Spears lookalike in the music video.
