At Sunday’s BET Awards, Bow Wow was asked on the red carpet by he thinks there have been no #1 hip-hop singles or albums so far in 2023.
“‘Cause n-ggas puttin’ out trash ass music,” he said. “Everything sound alike, everything repetitive, same tempo … everybody could do that, you know what I’m saying? You really gotta have talent, you really gotta go. I think people are startin’ to get tired of it now, that’s why you don’t see nothin’ chartin.'”
In the comments sections, viewers appeared to agree with Bow.
“Yup! Sure today’s rappers are making money but they ain’t making history. Hell, I’ll go as far as to say, people are starting to listen to Afro Beats and UK artist more than our Rap. People naturally yearn for creativity, dope melodies, something they can feel and a great story. It’s simply hasn’t been happening thru American rap music in years. 🤷🏾♂️” one viewer wrote.
Another added, “He’s Not Wrong. Everyone Copying And Pasting To Get Rich. No Actual Talent. Hopefully That Changes.”
