Malia Obama is no longer an Obama, at least not by name. Media Take Out confirmed that Barack and Michelle’s eldest daughter is now going by the name “Malia Ann” on all of her Hollywood projects.
Malia dropped her famous last name after she began facing accusations that she’s relied on her father’s connections to launch her filmmaking career.
Obama, the daughter of former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, presented a short film called “The Heart,” which she wrote and directed, at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 18.
Her film being screened at Sundance was quite a shock to many. It was the 23 year old filmmaker’s first project – and it was getting international buzz.
Media Take Out learned that shortly after the release of the film in Sundance, many observers and critics questioned whether the film, which was previously screened at the Telluride Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival, would have nabbed a Sundance slot if Malia Obama weren’t a former first daughter.
