B2K singer De’Mario “Raz-B” Thornton and his wife, Mona Li Thornton, are grieving an unimaginable loss after the unexpected death of their 3-month-old son, Astro Monte Thornton.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Astro Monte Thornton, beloved son of Mona and De’Mario ‘Raz B’ Thornton of the R&B supergroup B2K,” the couple’s spokesperson, David Robinson, said in a statement Thursday, Sept. 10.
“The family asks for privacy as they navigate this difficult time. They truly appreciate your love and support.”
A cause of death has not been made public.
Raz-B, 41, and Mona Li also have a son, Versai Carter Thornton, born in October 2024. Mona Li also has an older daughter from a previous relationship.
Just months ago, the couple had been celebrating Astro’s arrival. In May, Raz-B shared that they were at the hospital preparing to welcome their second son together.
“Big congratulations to my beautiful wife for being so strong through this journey,” he wrote at the time. “Watching you become a mother again is one of the greatest blessings I could ever witness.”
Days later, Raz-B praised Mona Li for being “the heart of this family,” adding, “I love you more than words can explain.”
Raz-B rose to fame as a member of B2K alongside Omarion, J-Boog and Lil’ Fizz. The group scored a No. 1 Billboard hit in 2002 with “Bump, Bump, Bump.”
