Actress Aye Edebiri addressed her disrespectful comments she made years ago about Jennifer Lopez, which recently went viral.
And she really had no choice …. because learned that Ayo hosted Saturday Night Live yesterday, with musical guest J. Lo.
Back in 2020, Ayo Edebiri was a guest on a podcast called Scam Goddess. The podcast is dedicated to uncovering scams.
While on the podcast, the then-relatively unknown Ayo called Jennifer Lopez’s entire career a scam.
She opened the segment by saying, “Today I was thinking about one of my favorite scams of all time because J. Lo is performing at the Super Bowl.”
“Her whole career is one long scam,” she continued.
Ayo went on to say, “I think she thinks she’s still good even though she’s not singing for most of these songs.”
Last night, she responded to the controversy in one of the first skits on the show, titled Why’d you say it?”
Ayo played a contestant on a game show that challenged social media users, asking them why they made certain negative comments on random posts.
The 28-year-old tried to explain herself through her character. She said, “Ok, ok, we get it. It’s wrong to leave mean comments or post comments just for clout,” she said. “Or run your mouth on a podcast. And you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.
“But I think I speak for everyone when I say from now on we’re going to be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online.”
Ayo is an American actress and television writer. She has played chef Sydney Adamu in the comedy-drama series The Bear since 2022, for which she has won a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
Edebiri has also served as a writer and voice actor on Big Mouth since 2020 and has written for the comedy series What We Do in the Shadows in 2022. In 2023, she voiced roles in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and had starring roles in the comedy films Theater Camp and Bottoms.
