A woman with autism has accused Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter of sexually abusing her in 2001 when she was just a minor.
Shannon “Shay” Ruth held a news conference. She filed a lawsuit against the Backstreet Boys member, alleging he raped her when she was 17 years old. She is now 39.
“The last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame and self-harm that are a direct result of Nick Carter raping me,” she alleged. “Even though I’m autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me. After he raped me, I remember him calling me a ‘retarded b—-‘ and grabbing me and leaving bruises on my arm.”
Shay says he gave her “a funny-tasting beverage that he called VIP juice.” She claims the star then took her to the bathroom on the bus, “told her to get on her knees” and “pulled down his pants and exposed his genitals, ordering [Ruth] to perform sexual acts on him,” the attorney said. “Under duress, she did as Carter instructed [her] and cried throughout the ordeal.”
After she spoke, her attorney accused Nick of having a history of abusing women. In 2017, another woman, pop girl band group member Melissa Schuman, also claimed she was raped by the pop singer.
