Australian breakdancer Rachael “Raygun” Gunn went viral after her bizarre breakdancing debut at the Paris Olympics was roasted online.
The performance earned Raygun zero points and has become one of the most popular memes of the year.
“All of my moves are original,” she said. “Creativity is really important to me. I go out there, and I show my artistry. Sometimes it speaks to the judges, and sometimes it doesn’t. I do my thing, and it represents art. That is what it is about.”
She added, “I was never going to beat these girls on what they do best—their power moves … What I bring is creativity.”
Breaking will not be part of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics but could make a return for the 2032 Games in Brisbane, Australia where Australia will get a chance to redeem itself.
Last week, the head judge of the breaking competition in Paris defended her from the criticism online.
“Breaking is all about originality and bringing something new to the table and representing your country or region,” head judge Martin Gilian said at a press conference. “This is exactly what Raygun was doing. She got inspired by her surroundings, which in this case, for example, was a kangaroo.”
