Antonio Brown is preparing to take a plea deal in his attempted murder case to keep him out of prison.
Brown, 38, is expected in a Miami courtroom next Wednesday to finalize the agreement. He currently faces an attempted murder charge that could carry up to 30 years behind bars if he were convicted at trial.
“This was not an easy decision,” attorney Mark Eiglarsh said in a statement Wednesday. “Antonio believes in his innocence.”
Brown is accused of taking a handgun from a security staffer after a celebrity boxing event in Miami on May 16, 2025, then firing two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu following an earlier fight, according to an arrest warrant. Nantambu told investigators that one bullet grazed his neck.
Brown has maintained on social media that he acted in self-defense and said people were trying to steal his jewelry.
Eiglarsh said Brown still believes he had a valid Stand Your Ground defense but decided the plea offer was too good of an offer to pass up.
“When prosecutors put an offer on the table that transforms a potential decades-long prison sentence into a significantly reduced charge and probation, there was simply no way he could reasonably turn it down,” he said.
Brown was extradited from Dubai in November 2025 after authorities issued a warrant months earlier.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers standout spent 12 seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before his football career ended in 2021.
