Andrew and Tristan Tate will spend at least two more weeks in jail before a judge considers whether they can be released while they battle extradition to the United Kingdom.
At a Monday hearing, U.S. Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis set Aug. 13 as the date for arguments over the brothers’ continued detention. They were arrested July 18 and are fighting efforts to return them to Britain, where they face allegations involving rape and sex trafficking.
Neither brother attended the hearing, and their lawyers pressed the U.S. government to disclose the materials British authorities used to obtain the arrests.
“They don’t have anything but the accusations,” attorney Joseph McBride said afterward. “It’s just their word against our word right now.”
Federal prosecutor Alejandra Lopez said the U.K. has until mid-September to submit its full extradition package to the State Department.

Another defense lawyer, Jackie Perczek, said the brothers’ past travel shows they would not attempt to escape. The former kickboxers have regularly returned to Romania while facing separate accusations there.
“For three years they have not fled,” she said. “They’ve traveled the world and every month they return to Romania.”
British authorities say the latest case involves four accusers and alleged offenses dating from 2010 to 2017. The brothers also face earlier U.K. charges connected to three other accusers.
Andrew and Tristan have repeatedly denied wrongdoing. McBride has said they “shouldn’t be extradited for crimes they did not commit.”
