Amber Rose Opens Up About Kanye’s Shocking VMA Speech

Amber Rose is revisiting the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and revealing why she feels partially responsible for Ye’s shocking interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Ball In the Family podcast, Rose reflected on attending the VMAs alongside the rapper formerly known as Kanye West during their relationship.

The model and media personality said she spent part of the night encouraging Ye and convincing him to bring a bottle of Hennessy to the event.

“I’m like, ‘Babe, you got that bottle of Hennessy upstairs,’” Rose said. “‘You a superstar. You need to get the Henny. We need to be taking shots of Henny on the carpet.’”

Rose recalled continuing to cheer him on before the now-infamous moment went down live on stage.

“‘You the biggest thing in the whole world,’” she remembered telling him. “I’m hyping him up.”

During the ceremony, Ye interrupted Swift as she accepted the award for Best Female Video for “You Belong With Me,” insisting Beyoncé deserved the honor for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”

Rose admitted she was caught completely off guard.

“All of a sudden, I’m just sitting there and then he’s on stage and I’m like, ‘Oh, s–t, I was not expecting that,’” she said.

Years later, Rose says she and Swift moved past the controversy. “She sent us a big box of all her merch and sent us tickets to a concert.”

Last year, Ye claimed that the inicdent is one of the reasons he has not had a Super Bowl Halftime Show.

“I never was allowed to do the Super Bowl because of three moments,” the rapper wrote in a since-deleted post on X last April. “George Bush don’t care about Black people. The Taylor Swift movement moment. Wearing a MAGA hat.”
