Amber Heard has officially announced that she is appealing the verdict after losing Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against her.
“As stated in yesterday’s congressional hearings, you don’t ask for a pardon if you are innocent,” a spokesperson for the Aquaman actress said per The Los Angeles Times. “And you don’t decline to appeal if you know you are right.”
Amber claimed that she had evidence of abuse she suffered from Depp but was not allowed to introduce it during the trial.
Depp was awarded $15 million in damages by the jury. He had originally sued her for $50 million. Heard countersued in summer 2020 for $100 million but was awarded just $2 million.
“There’s a binder worth of years of notes dating back to 2011 from the very beginning of my relationship that were taken by my doctor, who I was reporting the abuse to,” Heard told Savannah Guthrie.
