Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ Film Shooting Trial Begins Tuesday

Tiffany Brockworth |

Jury selection for Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin’s trial in the ‘Rust’ film shooting will kick off on Tuesday, July 9.

Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico movie set in October 2021.

At the time, he was practicing a cross-draw when the gun fired. He says he was told the weapon was not “hot,” but the weapon did have bullets in the chamber.

This week, the judge overseeing the case denied two motions filed by the actor’s legal team last week, claiming prosecutors had improperly managed evidence procedures.

Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who was responsible for the firearms on the Western film set, was 18 months in prison after she was convicted in March.

“You were the armorer, the one that’s to be between a safe weapon and a weapon that could kill someone. You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon. But for you, Mrs. Hutchins would be alive, a husband would have his partner and a little boy would have his mother. Please take her,’ the judge told her during sentencing.

She is requesting a new trial.
