Alec Baldwin Issues Statement After ‘Rust’ Manslaughter Case Dismissal

Lyndon Abioye |

Alec Baldwin issued a statement after his involuntary manslaughter case was dismissed last week.

Baldwin’s trial stemmed from the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

“There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now. To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family,” he wrote on Instagram.

Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico movie set in October 2021.

At the time, he was practicing a cross-draw when the gun fired. He says he was told the weapon was not “hot,” but the weapon did have bullets in the chamber.

The case was dismissed after it was revealed that prosecutors witheld evidence.

“The state’s willful withholding of this information was intentional and deliberate,” 1st Judicial District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said. “If this conduct does not rise to the level of bad faith, it certainly comes so near to bad faith as to show signs of scorching prejudice.”
