Earlier this year, Akon went viral after he wore a “Drio” outfit for his Drink Champs interview…a Dior knockoff.
The rapper explained why.
“The Drio came from one of my Africans. I’m always supporting my Africans. We go hard for each other. I knew that was gon’ raise engagement. It only takes one person to notice, and it’s gon’ go crazy on the internet and it did exactly what we wanted it to do,” he told French Montana who asked him why he rocked the bootleg fit.
In the comments section he added, “Promised my Africans I was going to represent for them with that DRIO. Kept my word. Shouts to lil Senegal in Harlem. Walla Bok!!!!! The African love is real. Me and my brother @frenchmontana really enjoyed this moment.”
In the same Drink Champs interview, Akon admitting to copping French a fake designer watch. He later made it right by buying the rapper a real luxury timepiece.
