Afroman is taking the officer who sued him back to court.
The rapper, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, filed a lawsuit Monday, July 27, against Brian K. Newland, an Adams County, Ohio, officer involved in the 2022 raid of his home.
The complaint accuses Newland of malicious prosecution, abuse of process, intentional infliction of emotional distress and interfering with Afroman’s business contracts. Afroman claims the officer’s earlier lawsuit cost him legal fees, income and professional opportunities.
The dispute began after officers searched Afroman’s home while investigating suspected drug trafficking and kidnapping. No criminal charges followed.
Afroman later turned his home security footage into viral music videos, including “Lemon Pound Cake,” which showed officers searching his belongings and looking at a cake in his kitchen.
Seven officers sued him in 2023, seeking nearly $4 million over allegations including defamation and invasion of privacy. An Ohio jury ruled in Afroman’s favor on every claim in March.
“All of this is their fault,” Afroman testified during that trial. “If they hadn’t wrongly raided my house, there would be no lawsuit.”
His new filing seeks compensatory and punitive damages, legal costs and a jury trial. Newland previously denied stealing money during the raid, testifying that he had miscounted the seized cash.
