A$AP Rocky says Rihanna rushed to his Paris hotel room and found him crying on the bathroom floor after his father died around Christmas 2012.
“My first album went No. 1; my dad died on Christmas,” Rocky, 37, said during an appearance on The Jason Lee Show. “I was on my bathroom floor in Paris crying.”
Rihanna, 38, initially called to congratulate him on the success of his debut album. When Rocky stopped answering his phone, she came to check on him.
“I don’t even know how Rihanna got the key to my room,” he recalled. “She walked right in, ‘Yo, you good?’ That really was my friend.”
The rapper said the moment showed him who Rihanna was long before the two became romantically involved.
“This don’t got nothing to do with her accolades or her money,” he said. “The truth of the matter is, when my dad died, she was there for me.”
Rocky added that Rihanna has repeatedly supported him during the most painful periods of his life.
“Every time I’m at my lowest and darkest place, rather if we just friends platonically or we in a couple relationship, she always f–kin’ there for me,” he said.
Rocky and Rihanna confirmed their romance in 2020 and share three children sons RZA and Riot and daughter Rocki.
He also discussed losing his older brother, Ricky, whom he described as both a brother and father figure. Rocky said those deaths taught him to “value your people you love.”
