: In December there were warnings saying there would be a shooting. Classes were cancelled during final exam week. Later there were threats made that the shooting would still take place. It is now February. More than 15 students are now injured and were sent to the hospital. The threats were made specifically against BLACK STUDENTS. However, the shootings that actually took place were in a lecture hall. The same lecture hall that my boyfriend has class in three times a week. Had this shooting took place yesterday at the same time, he could be dead. Today he was on the way to class and he passed an group of officers and asked someone what was happening. The person responded "somebody has a shotgun". He then saw students running toward him and began to run back toward his dorm. While this was happening, a student dressed in all black was opening fire on a lecture hall full of students. Although there are students in critical condition, there have been no lives lost. Pray for them. How can we go to school and make something of our lives when we have to be concerned about hate-crimes and shootings? While I am not a student at NIU, this incident makes me afraid. I also go to a university less than 2 hours away from NIU. How can I concentrate knowing that my boyfriend of nearly 3 years will have to go to class again on monday, possibly in the same hall were students were shot. Although the gunman is now dead, and the campus is now proclaimed to be safe, is it really safe?
I will pray tonight and tomorrow mornign and every other time that I think about this. Its hard to come up with something to do about it. All I can say is ask your friend to keep his ears and eyes open, and don't take anything for granted.

What the hell is wrong with people???
I heard about this incident on the radio on the way to my 6:50...and it's bad enough that class is at night!
All I could do was SMH when I heard about this. I was like...NOT AGAIN!
I feel you on being afraid. I worry ALOT and these campus shootings aren't helping the bad nerves I already have!!!
I wish there was an ulterior motive for all the shootings, so we can at least rest assure. But, I just think the devil is busy and God is NOT playing around anymore. If you don't shape up, you'll end up...you know the rest!

@ Henn I feel that! I didn't care about the ban either...it doesn't really pop off like that down south (attended Southern University A&M) but they still managed to have a few abductions and robberies..I was ready like Freddy. The crazies are starting to target colleges bc it's like shooting fish in a barrel..they know no one's armed. Cowards.
@ Zebra The rates of the youngsters having Aids and other std's are supposedly rising, due to a rise in unprotected/drunk/party sex, but I actually thing the statistics were always high, but just never studied. No awareness whatsoever. No community awareness campaigns, nothing done to promote health and safety from the Infirmary division..I also think that happens in a lot of places, not just Down South.
yeah, you right! but i just heard that Southern and Grambling were off the chain! i guess i should be happy i wasn't there b/c the way i was getting down my freshman and sophomore year, those guys would have ate me ALIVE! i was pretty level-headed, but STILL!
Northern Ill sounds mixed to me, but you are right! They should have taken better precautions. Because of the carelessness, it makes you wonder what the majority is, doesn't it?
I am always perplexed by campus or school shootings.
The same qquestions i ask is HOW DID THE GUN MEN GET A GUN?
WHY DIDNT ANY ONE SEE THE WARNING SIGNS?
I do not understand that if someone is in a shotting rampage why cant they take thier own life and kill themselves without harming people that dont have anything to do with your sad ass life.
Another thing that gets me upset is the fcuking media. They always glorify this shyt and talk about it for weeks or months and then the same thing happens again. Why can they just report it and also keep it discreet and not give it [EXPLETIVE] up names lke Nancy Grace did last night "Valentines Day Shotting Massacre" what type of shyt is that. This had nothing to do with a day of love...
The media is fcuked up for glorifying MASS killings, the Schools are fckued up because no one is paying attention to these fcuking crazy anti-social killers, and the Government is fcuked up for allowing guns to be soo EASILY accessible.
