I am pro union even though my state is a right to fire for whatever reason state. But teachers should be evaluated and there should be no deal to ignore teachers who are poor performers and abuse students. Too many teachers feel they they can get away with whatever they want because they cant be fired.

"The process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. Yes, public workers may demand fair treatment ... Particular, I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the public sector. A strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government."
The National Labor Relations Act of 1935, which made employers legally bided to negotiate collectively with employees--excludes federal and state employees. Robert Wagner, the sponsor of the NLRA of 1935, later signed an executive order alowing public servants to unionize. Selfishly, to enhance his chances of re-election. Talk about country first.
As a young lad(1000 or so pound Jedi) growing up in the 80's, I remember folks getting public work for the job security and racial fair treatment. Today in L.A. county, janitors are racking in 80 grand with benefits. This obligation to paying off government pensions will eventually bankrupt Chicago and many ofter cities. Money that could be better used on school vouchers. Vouchers promising kids could use to get out of under performing public schools and into private ones. Of course this will never happen, cause public unions have the Democratic Party in their collective back pockets. Bye!
It's obvious these kids need to be in school learning. I wonder why the Union president initially said it was a good contract and then back-tracked and said it was bad. What made the the contract good initially?? It's a new day and these kids need to be able to keep up in this world. New evaluation methods are merited. As far as money goes, the national average for a raise is around 3%. So as far as salary increases along with bonuses, 17.6% sounds like it's fair. So what's the real issue here?? You don't want to be held accountable?? Even McDonald's workers are retained or fired based on their performance. And all of America wants job security. Maybe I just need more information b/c this is not adding up for me.......
