So so sad. I had the biggest crush on him growing up "Cant Wait Another Minute" was my song. I thought he was soooooo cute. I am so sad to hear that. To skilletcheek that was someones son someones father so please lets be respectful please! My prayers to his family friends and many fans.
hell yeah thats mad young of a person because what if u die and media takeout posted it and every body was saying that they were 1st u would like it even though ur not that important for media takeout to be posting any thing about u
Sad to say, not a joke. RIP
Tony Thompson (born September 2, 1975 died June 1, 2007) was an American R&B/soul singer and the lead vocalist of the R&B group Hi-Five. Thompson, who was raised in Oklahoma City, started singing solos in the local church choir at the age of eight. He was noticed by a producer and made a cut of a demo with Roderick Clark, Russell Neal, Marcus Sanders, and Toriano Easley, acquaintances from his days in Waco. Hi-Five signed with Jive Records in 1990. The quintet's self-titled debut album went multi-platinum and created several hits, including "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)," "I Can't Wait Another Minute," and "Just Another Girlfriend". 1992 brought Keep It Goin' On with "She's Playing Hard to Get" and "Quality Time". Faithful appeared the following year. Thompson's solo debut, Sexsational, was released on Giant Records in 1995.
Today, Thompson has his own record label, N'Depth, and has re-incarnated Hi-Five with four new members, one of whom is his younger brother. The group's new album, The Return, was released in 2006.
That's really sad...I loved that group too! I had the cassette tape and I also had my first kiss on that song-kissing game...I also loved the other 4 hits they had...I just listened to the kissing game about a week ago...Man! I remembered the Sprite commercial -"I like the Spite"... SMH...we lost another one due to drugs...when will these people wake up?
Yeah, I live in Waco, Texas and I heard about this story last night from one of my family members that live in that apartment complex where he was found... this is a really sad thing that happened and I feel really sad for his entire family. I have known them all for soooo many years and when something happens like this it really hits close to home....
RIP Lil' Tony and to the Thompson family if any of you read this: May God Be With You All!
That is sad. Addiction is sad. I hate to hear when people lose control like that. Respect your body..respect your life.
And to the ignorant people on this board...learn when to control it! Learn when to and when not to display your ignorance!
For me, this is beyond heartbreaking. His solo album was "THE BOMB" I loved him to death. True story, in the early 90's I went to their concert with Father M.C., Salt & Pepa, and Tony Toni Tone, in my home town, my neices and I snuck into the hotel where they were staying, and they there he was, as I was about to scream, he said "shh, I'll be right back to sign autographs" I put him in a head lock and kissed him down to the floor. TRUE STORY. We also saw everyone else too, except Father M.C (got autographs from all of them except Salt)
Oh nooo! This is sooo sad! I absolutely loved this group & his voice! SKilletcheecks, ignorance is bliss & u seem very happy! No matter who it is, there is nothing funny about death & it should b taken seriously! Wat if it was your mother or a family member being discussed.. u would want 2 k.i.l.l sum1 if they did wat u did! He's not able 2 wake up & get another chance 2 live. His family wont b able 2 look into his face, hear his wonderful voice, or be able 2 tell him ''I Love You'' again! You shouldb grateful u hav another chance 2 do all of this & more, so spend more time elevating your mind & making a difference positively in your life & othe ppls lives so when its your time 2 go ppl will hav nothing but good things 2 say about u, instead of saying how ignorant & stupid u r w/ lack of respect & dignity 4 yourself & others! Have a lil class & dont disrespect your mom by showing your ignorance on this topic!
Now of the stupidity!
Hi5 was the B2K of our era,the early 90s, I still remember the words 2 all my fav songs
Cant Wait Another Minute
Neva should have let u go etc...
I hope his soul was right w/ God despite thee demons he was wrestling w/, these drug overdoses are more frequent nowadays, this is a huge problem! Let this b a lesson 2 all of us that life is short & fragile! Tell your friends & family u love them as much as u can, hug them & kiss them! 2morrow is not promised 2 any of us, we r living on borrowed time! We live as if we r invisible &will live 4ever but that is not the case! We r born 2 die & death can/will com w/o warning! May he rest in peace!
Skilletcheek, you are such an asswipe,
This is such a sad tradegy. I always liked him the best. My favorites were
"She's playing hard to get"
As I can recall I remember when they were all on the Wendy Williams Show and the rest of the group had disowned him and they arguing back and fourth about who was the best singer. He said he put a whole new group together. I bet the old members are feeling it now. Such a tradegy....
ITS OBVIOUS THAT THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW THIS GROUP ARE TOO YOUNG!! I'M 29 AND I'VE BEEN BANGING HI-5 SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL!!THEY WERE THE BOMB!!! THIS IS SO SAD!! THIS JUST LETS YOU GUYS KNOW HOW BUSY GOD IS!!! MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY. I LIVE IN HOUSTON AND DIDNT KNOW THEY WERE FROM WACO!! THE KISSING GAME?? THAT WAS MY SONG!!!! "I LIKE THE WAY YOU KISS ME WHEN WERE PLAYING THE KISSING GAME....ALL SUMMER LONG WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER..AND I'VE NEVER FELT SO GOOD. CAUSE WHEN I'M WITH YOU, IT'S SUCH A GOOD TIME, YES IT IS...." YA'LL DONT FEEL ME!!!
This is very very tragic. I am from Waco born and raised and this is very devastating. He was very talented but the devil takes over our lives and things like this happen. It's funny because everyone in Waco with the last name Thompson swore they were of some kin to him..lol My deepest condolences go out to all his fans, friends, and family
OH LORD..THAT IS SAD..
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE OLD SCHOOL GROUPS.
YOU KNOW I DONT THINK ,WE REALIZE HOW SHORT LIFE IS UNTIL A YOUNG PERSON IS TAKEN...
drugs are whipping out our black people, i have a cousin who died from, taken crack to heavy.,and his heart gave out., he was 30 so this hits home for me too..
MY PRAYER ARE WITH HIS FAMILY, I KNOW THIS MUST BE HARD FOR THEM AND HIS FRIENDS ,,RIGHT NOW
This is sooooo sad!! I loved them. RIP Tony.
I still play his solo album. I love his remake/version of Stevie Wonder's My Cherie Amor. And his Love like this....I want a baby girl like you I want a love that turns me on, Like Over and Over. Geez. Now I'm gonna play the album all day.
So sorry to hear about this, if it is true. I JUST made a slow jam CD with Unconditional Love by Hi-Five on there. I hope this isn't true cuz Tony could sing and if he made a comeback I would certainly have looked forward to hearing his new material.
OMG! This is so sad! Hi-Five was one of my favorite 90s groups. RIP Tony!!
This story is looking to be true...more and more news outlets are reporting this. I just hope its not a drug overdose! My heart goes out to his family and friends.
NOOOOOOOOOO THE LEAD SINGER TONY THOMPSON FROM HI-FIVE IS THE ONE THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. HE WAS FOUND DEAD ON MY COUSINS BACK PORCH IN HER APARTMENTS. i AM FROM WACO BORN AND RAISED. ITS A SMALL TOWN AND NEWS TRAVELS FAST. GOD REST HIS SOUL
Ok, I would really like to know where this info can be found. I checked the Waco TV station above and it just said that Tony Thompson 31, was found dead - no mention of overdose or even if it's the same Tony from Hi-Five. I live in Dallas and I know Waco is small, but his name is very common, although it is his correct age... Does anyone have a link to a reliable news site that states this as factual? I know there are RIP's going out all over his websites too...
Thats so sad, they were one of favorite groups back in high school. Infact their poster still hangs in my old bedroom at my mom's house. I saw the new video Hi-five did with Paul Wall on you tube. So sad, my respects go out to his family and the group.
Honestly MTO, I hoping that this would be one of those times when your "reporting" was off, as usual! Looking at this thread, half of the bloggers actually went to other news sources to confirm that this was "REAL NEWS!" Unfortunately....Ya'll Got this One Right!!! Those Hi-Five dudes were decent for the '90s!!! That "Kissing Game" joint is a classic!!!!!
Oh Yeah!!! A reminder that this guy spent damn near 10 years STRANDED on death row...uh, I mean BAD BOY waiting on Puff to put him out!!!! Diddy, YOU SUCK!!!!
This is so sad, I just checked his myspace page and there are alot of rip's on his page, I was hoping this was not true but it looks like it is. May he rest in peace, he was to young. I loved that group in the 90's, I am 33 and remember them very well, this is so sad, I dont know what to say.
That is so sad!! I used to love this lil' fella back in the day. And The Kissing Game was my favorite, I was about 19 when the shit dropped. Since I'm an ole' head, when that song comes on... I still skin that shit up. That is still a nice song to sing and dance along to!
wow, Im in shock..I thought they were trying to make a come back..they were on Wendy Williams a few months ago promoting a record..I know one of them served time in jail but Tony seemed like he had it together..he was the main voice of the group and he could still sing all these years later..damn, its a shame when talented artists get pushed aside for people who have no talent..Diddy is infamous for pulling sh*t like that..having some wack ass people like Danity Kane as main artists when people like Tony deserve the shine..he could have been something great but Diddy never did a damn thing with that talent..I know people personally who were signed to Bad Boy and their records never saw the light of day..you know Tony must have been depressed that his deal with Diddy never panned out because he left his group and caused a major rift between him and his boys because Diddy the devil made him empty promises of stardom..thats probably why he was using drugs, if thats true..failure can make you lose your mind if you dont know how to deal with it..RIP Tony
Man that was one of most favorite groups back in the day.and yeah, why on this bitch there's always an asshole bitch making negative ass comments.them stupid fucks must have low self asteem for themselves to down even people that have passed on.BITCH GET A LIFE OF YOUR OWN BITCH!!!!
I just read the article from the email that someone posted from Kwtx headlines and there seems to be two different Tony Thompsons that died. One seems to be Tony Thompson from Hi Five and the other Tony Thompson was a drummer for several singers. My prayers go out to both families.
hi-five was the shyizznit when i was in high school! the live version of can't wait another minute was the CUT here in raleigh for real! i remember when me and my high school click of girls went to go see them at the dorton arena in 1992. dayum! those were the days. rip tony!
OMG! I love this group. I just tracked down their greatest hits album a week ago & have been playing it everyday since. I can't believe it's true! That STUFF is no joke. My heart & prayers goes out to everyone mourning his death.
HYPE N WILD is a TOTAL ASSHOLE! FIRST OF ALL.
Second, "I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER MINUTE" was originally recorded by FIVE STAR (a Black group from Britain) so I dont even remember a HI-FIVE version.
ANYWAY..."KISSING GAME" was my joint though and TONY...R.I.P.
PS; Anyone that sells crack is a coward and a chump.
Oh no! I really loved that group; Unconditional Love was my joint back in junior high! Wonder what drugs caused his death? So sad to see a young man die so unnnecessarily. From his myspace page, it shows he had a son. My condolensces to the family and friends of this young man.
Awwww. That is so sad. This group and the songs they sang bring back so many good memories.
Buy ya know - I did know a guy that hung out with them on a personal level - and he said the image they portrayed "innocent" was A LOT different from the REAL THEM.
He said way back then the lead singer was smoking a lot of weed - and I mean that was tabu back then.
Wow, man these guys had the best 90's R&B songs. I went to the same high school as these guys and they were good. I garduated with little brother of one and this is sad. Songs will live on. By the way "Trendwood" apartments was not a place to be hanging out. Sorry it had to end tghis way for him. God bless the family and the groups music will live on. Go lions!!!!
Wow, that's really sad!! I've been reading the MTO site for like 6 months, but have never posted any comments. I grew up in the early '90s listening to Hi-Five. I was just listening to "The Kissing Game", last week and had it on repeat like 5 times. That's one of my favorite songs ever. My condolences go out to his family and friends. May he Rest In Peace.
SAD SAD NEWS. I herd him singing some hooks on mixtapes with swisha house & other texas rappers. This was recent to. BETWEEN THE TOP GROUP OF THE 90'3 BOZY II MEN, AND THE SECOND GROUP JODECI, THESE GUYS WERE RIGHT UP THERE. But infighting realiy hurt the group. He tried to go solo but it didnt work out. I guess that his struggles were greater than we all thought. RIP brotha .
its sad he had to go out this way..such a talent..but this industry can be so cruel..it makes you wonder..if he grew up to be a lawyer or sales man or anything else, he might have lived a normal life and could have been happy and not had to end up this way..sometimes fame and money dont guarantee a good life..I know the group had a lot of internal issues and could never capture the success they once had..and his solo career didnt go well..that must have been hurtful..Im sure their image wasnt how they really were in real life but their music was good because it was something everyone could listen to
RIP Tony...Dang I just saw a couple of their videos about 2 weeks ago and wondered what ever happened to them and to hear this man this is sad. You know when you no longer hear from these great musical groups from back in the day you always hope that they are doing well. I don't know if some know (and yeah this is old news)but the lead singer from the group H-Town died but he died from a tragic car accident.
HI-FIVE WAS A GOOD GROUP BACK IN THE DAY,THIS IS SOOO SAD AND ITS A SHAME PEOPLLE GET ON LINE TO HOLLA 1ST,2ND,OR 10TH!!!YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO SEND YOUR COMMENTS AND SOMETHING LIKE THIS DESERVES SOME RESPECT BY JUST SENDING YOUR CONDOLENCES!!
They were on the Wendy Williams Experience about 3 or 4 months ago and Wendy specifically asked the Lead Singer the one who is allegedly dead was he on drugs, was he doing drugs. He blatantly denied it, Wendy kept pressing him she was like lemme see your arms. He was like I'm not doing drugs. When I heard his denying it I could tell he was on drugs. This is really too bad and so sad. I LOVE HIGH FIVE. :(
Damn, I was really praying this was a MTO lie, but sadly I have confirmed its true on All Hip Hop and the Houston Chronicle sites. God rest his soul.
Why are you trying to diss the group? They never pretended to be innocent. They had undeveloped voices because they were teenagers, but their content was definately not innocent. Furthermore, weed was no more tabu back then or 30 years before then than it is now.
Man, as soon as it said lead singer of Hi Five found dead, I knew who it was. He was my favorite member I had a big crush on him. He was so cute and those dimples. Dimples are my weakness. I did not know he got into drugs I hopw thats not the case. I pray he did not feel any pain. God bless his family.
this is so sad, i was just saying on concrete what a crush i used to have on him back in the day. he was sooo cute! but i think this is a familiar story in the "business". what happens to folks when hollywood dosent want you anymore & you thought you were gonna be on top forever? you cant get a regular job & sliding back to being a regular person must be the slide to hell after youve experienced that kind of fame & success. thats just terrible.
I am from Waco and I will be attending his funeral this saturday. He was a cool guy and was very ambitious and could sing so good. I remember when we were at sherman manor apartments and he was battling with a friend of mine to see who sing the best and of course tony won. He will be truly missed.
There has not been a confirmed caused of death..There have been toxicology test that have been taken and it's going to take about 12 weeks to learn the cause of death. The media is ruining this young man's reputation. No one knows what he died from..he could of collapsed..or had a heart attack..the media is so quick to take a rumor and run with it..Until the public finds out what really happened..lets respect this man and his family..Every article you pull up..they are saying he died of an overdose..It's not how he died..but how he lived..Rest In Peace Tony..
Some of you on here are so thoughtless. I'm sure you have something else to do other than slandering Tony's name when you don't even know him. He left us with some beautiful songs while he was in the group and solo. No matter what is the truth, I will still be his fan. That's what you call a TRUE FAN. You little kids, go find somewhere else to post your comments.
