I don't know why Chicago violence is so amplified now. This city has been violent since the 20's (Capone) and now all of sudden it's news. I will say that since the PJs have been torn down, the violence has moved into "other" parts of the city. I am glad I live in the subs but I'm sure some of the violence will end up here too. BTW, Chicago is not the only violent city but you don't see other urban cities in the news like this. National Guard? I wonder about that.

@ Maat, this is why I drink steam distilled water. No water is perfect but it's better than tap and filtered water. Many of the so-called poor communities have contaminated water from other chemicals as well. Crestwood, IL is a good example of water that was contaminated by the Gov. However, that city has mostly poor whites. Buying and selling homes have been restricted in that township.

But notice this segment only focussed on "the most dangerous" neighborhood on the South side. There are too many factors in the recent increase in crime to single out one neighborhood. Crime increases when employment is low. And what they won't admit, like so many have said before, is that crime increased around the city when they began tearing down and rebuilding public housing buildings. The Mayor and the CHA need to be held accountable.
For those who keep saying Obama needs to do something, that's the reason he ran for president. It's almost impossible to do anything on the local level without changing things on a federal level. Powerful lobbyists write laws, get them passed and block legislation. The underserved communities have to come together and form lobbying groups just as powerful as those groups (such as NRA, insurance lobbyist, etc.) that contribute to the negligence of the underserved communities. These are drug wars. Period. Why are drugs still seeping into our communities? Change necessitates a collaboration.

I lived in Chicago in 93-94, in the wild 100's. It wasn't that bad then, bad but not this bad. I think over the years it has gotten worse with the weapons on the streets, poor employment, high costs. When I lived out there GDs ruled the area. You got fugged up just for wearing your hat the wrong direction. The high school I went to put metal detectors in the front door. There was a fire set in the mop closet next to my classroom. Now the same school just a few months ago a young man was beat to death in the streets while folks videotaped and looked on w/o helping. If they don't stop what is going on out there, they are going to bulldoze that whole city and burn it to the ground like before.
That is why I am leaving in the next two years, when I get my money together. I moved away for a while and LOVED the state where I moved. I GREW UP AND WITNESSED IN FRONT OF ME(DECAPITATION), GANGS EVERYWHERE , AND ANYTHING ELSE NEGATIVE YOU CAN IMAGINE. I have two young boys, and don't want them experiencing what I did. Its a known fact that places like Detroit and New Orleans have a higher MURDER rate, but no one said chicago had a MURDER problem, chicago has a VIOLENT CRIME IN GENERAL problem. I was born, raised and still live in the Chicago area. The shift in Chicago began in the mid-1990's when public housing (projects) began to close and they moved the residents of these areas in outlying neighborhoods. Before this happened, the most violent of crime & murders were isolated in the projects and the neighborhoods where the projects were. Now since the public housing residents are dispersed throughout Chicago, all of this madness has spread all over, including the West Side but especially the South Side. This "no snitching" sh*t is helping crime to escalate.
This coon ass site love to brainwash negroes, the truth is most of this stuff is happening in the eaglewood area just like any other high crime area. Wow, what studies like this do is continue to stigmatize communities, especially communities of color. Putting the national guard in the streets would create a war zone. I already knew that the country is messed up but why don't we look at institutional factors. These communities don't exist on accident. In the 30s and 40s thanks to de-industrialization and recent gentrification their is no sense of responsibility to protect these areas, simply to police them. They even showed the statistics of crimes solved, they shoulda shown crimes attempted to be solved. numbers would be even lower. Studies need to stop revictimizing those who are already victimized and focus on institutional processes because it is not simply individuals responsible for situations such as inner-city Chicago. Don't mistake my making these comments as not placing responsibilities with the individuals, but we have to analyze these phenomena holistically and historically.
The problem is they need to stop spending millions of tax dollars building prisons and use the money to build prevention programs.
These people need positive role models to help them know there is another way. Also they need to have more after school programs, tutors, media outlets for aspiring singers and rappers, sports coaches,theartre the list is endless. Let me run that place. I would have a bus pick the kids up right from school to the program, pick them up Saturday morning, and take them to church on Sunday. They would be so tired they wouldn't have time for anything except to sleep.
I'm from Chicago, and I actually lived in the projects (Harold Ickes Homes) my whole life up until 2007, while i was in college getting my bachelors in accounting at DePaul when they closed my building down, and I can honestly say that crime here is just about the same, it just spread out to other areas because of CHA's plan of gentrification because the areas' where the projects were, were prime real estate. so they shipped everyone in other urban neighborhoods which caused rifts between other gangs that was living there in the first place. I've seen far worst than a decapitation

But out new governor has recently proposed to eliminate early childhood educational programs (pre-school) and other extra-curricular activities (those all-important activities to help high school students enter college and helps develop younger students' individual talents). Why do you say “imaginary white men”??? What does that means….. When someone say the “the white man” no one is referring to a white individual… It’s the system white supremacy…. It’s a system that was created for and by them which by its nature inherently oppresses non whites….. It's a system that is dependent on "racism" for the socio-economic-political well being of white skin people….. It's like an exclusive club with white skin as dues,(also with auxiliary memberships which allows a limited number of non white participants, if they help maintain the system) and racism is on an automatic subconscious level while the reactions to are debased and called racist in and of themselves...this helps to hide it's intent... Whites Have a lot of power, but sometimes I feel Blacks give them more power. We have control of our own actions, we can't blame them for killing one another.

glam_barbie, I hate to say it, but I worked for the CHA when they implemented the Plan which people loosly lable gentrification. The Plan was sold to the Mayor by mostly black people, many who grew up in those same complexes that were torn down. They intended to rehabilitate many residents, mandate that they work so many hours per week and provide job training in order to re-enter the housing system. Where I fault Daley (the city) is they should have calculated all possible negative effects before giving the green light.
I so agree with virgoprincess. I don't think they realize that the reason the spotlight is on Chi so much, is because our President is from the South side of Chi. So we have a magnifying glass on us. Hell I wouldn't live there either, but other cities are way worst...including Miami. Some places in ATL I was told not to go to at night....definitely in Washington DC too. So you can't bash the whole town and suburbs. It's much better here too me.

The only thing I get from this video is one thing, If you live among AA's, the Police will not protect you. Why AA's have to live among whites to feel protected? It is a combination of the media and the the Police not responding to drugs, gang violence and low employment rates taken place in urban communities. It is no coincidence that majority urban communities around the USA are in the same situation. It is no coincidence all African descent nations are in ruins. We are constantly told to fix our own communities but last time I checked we were paying taxes like everyone else. The police wanna show up now when things get outta hand but they didn’t show when the problem 1st escalated. The system has failed these people and we unconsciously allowed this to happen by moving out instead of standing up for our communities and our rights.
Now the media is trying to act like AA's are uncivilized when that is not the case at all. It is all deception and brainwashing to keep AA's from living among each other so our communities can continue to fall apart since we are allowing it to happen by moving out to the suburbs. Since the police are now in our community, they have been giving the authority to do what they please and no telling what is really going on. Remember how the police were purposely shooting Katrina victims for no reason.
Let's think, AA's do not have their own police force. So how the hell are we suppose to combat violence or drugs? Isn't that why America has a police force? That is like telling a group to combat their own violence and drugs without the help of the police. The AA community was not always bad, it has gotten worst because it was designed to get worst and that shouldn't never been possible if we always had a police force available. The US can fight and win wars but can't stop violence and drugs in a community.

I understand we have our faults and I'm not saying we 100% innocent here but you cannot tell me obstacles over the years haven't been thrown at AA's in this country. Many of these obstacles were have done damage which is why they were thrown out there. I mean I can say blacks should work hard, do this do that yadda yadda yadda but that would only be addressing one side of the issue.
